ABOUT TEXAS STATE

The Bobcats are coming off a weekend in which they dropped a series at South Alabama. Texas State is 5-4 in midweek games this season with the first four victories coming against Big XII and SEC opponents. The lone non-Power 4 win came last Tuesday at home versus Houston Christian. Tuesday will be just the third time ever hosting the top-ranked team in the country.

Ryne Farber continues to lead the team with a .298 average, 45 hits, 25 runs, 16 walks, 11 doubles and 12 stolen bases. He has also driven in 20 runs and hit by a pitch eight times. Chase Mora paces the squad with five homers and 22 RBI while recording 23 runs, nine doubles and eight stolen bases, four of which have come over the past two contests. Both Zachary Gingrich and Samson Pugh have hit a team-high three triples apiece.

Slated to start on the mound on Wednesday is Austin Eaton. The right-hander will be making his third consecutive midweek start. He is 2-2 with a 7.25 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 22.1 innings. Wednesday's starter is to be determined.

Matthew Tippie has come out of the bullpen a staff-high 18 times this season and sports a 2-0 record with one save, 3.94 ERA and team-high 49 strikeouts over 29.2 innings. Carson Laws has earned seven saves while going 3-0 with 37 strikeouts in 26.1 innings.

ABOUT TEXAS

The Longhorns come in having won five straight and 16 of their last 18 contests. The only two losses in that span were a 5-4 setback at Kentucky in 15 innings on Apr. 12 and Texas State's win in Austin on Apr. 1. Tuesday is UT's lone road midweek game of the season.

Ethan Mendoza paces the team with a .347 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 38 runs scored. Also scoring that many times has been Rylan Galvan, who has hit 11 home runs and driven in 34 while batting .336. Will Gasparino comes in with 11 round trippers and team-high 43 RBI. Also batting over .300 is Kimble Schuessler (.327). Just shy of double-digit homers is Jalin Flores (39 RBI) with nine long balls.

Tuesday's starter is still to be announced.

Dylan Volantis has recorded a team-high nine saves while also going 3-0 with a 1.05 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 46 strikeouts in 34.1 innings. Also, with multiple saves this year are Max Grubbs (6-0, 1.50 ERA, 36 K) and Thomas Burns (0-1, 2.84 ERA, 15 K) with four and two, respectively.

SERIES VS. LONGHORNS

Texas leads the all-time series 56-17. However, Texas State has won five of the last seven meetings including a 5-3 victory at the beginning of the month in Austin.

When hosting the Longhorns, the Bobcats are 2-10 all-time and have dropped the last five. Last time TXST won at home in the series was a 7-6 walk-off victory on Apr. 23, 2019. The first-ever win took place on Mar. 21, 2017 when the Bobcats claimed an 11-10 contest in 10 innings.

ABOUT TARLETON STATE

The Texans are coming off a series victory on the road over Utah Valley that saw them win the last two games after dropping the opener. Over their last 12 games, TSU has won just four times. Tarleton State is 2-6 in midweek games with both victories coming against Incarnate Word.

Four batters are hitting over .300 led by Slade McCloud (6 HR, 36 RBI) at .346 while Rayner Heinrich (15 2B, 23 RBI) is right behind him at .345. A team-high 11 home runs have come off the bat of Tyson Drake, who also paces the squad with 47 runs, 39 RBI and seven triples.

Wednesday's starter for the Texans is still to be announced.

Six saves have been earned by Tarleton State with the only pitcher claimed multiple ones being Andrew Hardin (0-1, 3.38 ERA, 25 K) with two. Aden Lucas has made a team-high 20 relief appearances while going 2-2 with a 5.81 ERA and punching out 16 in 26.1 innings. Ryan Beaird (1-4, 1 SV, 8.22 ERA, 25 K) has appeared in 18 games out of the bullpen.

SERIES VS. TEXANS

Both teams have won a game in the all-time series. Last year saw Texas State win 2-1 in Stephenville with Alec Patino drive in the winning run in the top of the eighth. The only time the teams have met in San Marcos was on Apr. 27, 1988 that saw the Texans come out on top 2-1.
