CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Jack Burke opened the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial by firing his sixth round of 2024-25 in the 60s to lead the Texas State men's golf team across 36 holes on Monday.
The senior went 5-under 66 on the par-71 course by registering six birdies in the opening round and went on to finish the day 4-under and in a tie for sixth place, three strokes out of the top three and six back from the individual leader. After two rounds, Burke's 10 birdies are the second most for an individual.
As a team, the Bobcats are eighth at 4-over heading into the final round of action. The first round 282 tied the second-best opening round of the 2024-25 season (278 Hal Williams, 282 Kapolei Invitational). No. 11 Florida State leads the 12-team field at -27 with No. 13 Virginia (-11) second and No. 27 Northwestern (-10) third.
Sakke Siltala secured a 17-spot improvement on the individual leaderboard in the second round, firing his team-best ninth round in the 60s this campaign. The junior started his day 1-over but carded a 69 over the second 18 to occupy the 21st spot on the leaderboard alongside seven other golfers.
Ben Loveard (+5, T47),
Jaxon Donaldson (+7, T56) and
Brannan Cox (+9, T64) round out the TXST lineup.
The final round of action opens Tuesday and will see the Bobcats paired with Arkansas and Toledo. The group tees off from hole No. 10 beginning at 9:40 a.m. ET/8:40 a.m. CT.
