Softball Stays on the Road for Trip to Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Texas State softball will continue its road trip at Southern Miss this weekend. The three-game series will be April 11-13 with the first of the games on April 11 starting at 6 pm. All three games of the series will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Bobcats come into the week with a 25-12 record, having a 8-4 record in Sun Belt action after sweeping the series with South Alabama this week last weekend, but coming off a 10-1 loss to #1 Texas in the midweek.

ABOUT THE BOBCATS:
Texas State is coming off a 47-win campaign and an appearance in the NCAA College Station Regional after winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in 2024. The Bobcats were selected to finish 1st in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason poll.

The Bobcats have a new look to them this year, but return key position players like outfielders Ciara TrahanEmilee Baker, and Sydney Harvey, pitchers Maddy Azua, Presley GlendeAnalisa Soliz and Abigail Jennings, catchers Karmyn BassMakayla Hall, and Megan Kelnar.

The Bobcats also brought in four transfers, all from Power 4 schools, Aiyana Coleman (Texas A&M), Keely Williams (Texas A&M), Kate Bubela (UNC), Emma Strood (LSU) to round out the team.

Also joining the team was seven freshmen. Through 37 games so far, 25% of Texas State's starters have been freshmen. Erin Peterson leads the freshmen with 37 consecutive starts at shortstop, but Mayson Garrett (26 starts) has also made her mark on the team early in her freshmen campaign.

The Bobcats currently have four players batting above .300, led by Aiyana Coleman at .418. Coleman leads the team in hits (38), home runs (12) and RBI (34) Rounding out the top of the order is Megan Kelnar (.345), Bailee Slack (.340), and Ciara Trahan (.323).
 
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES:
Southern Miss comes into the week with a 20-19 record on the season, and they are 7-4 so far in Sun Belt play. Southern Miss comes into the week on a loss, but won its series with ULM last weekend.
Southern Miss is led by Hannah Christian who has a .361 batting average. She is one of four Golden Eagles batting above .300, including Mikaila Fox (.359), Maddie Weeks (.343) and Carrie Green (.327).
 
The Golden Eagles most effective pitchers are Kayla Giardina and Jana Lee. Giardina has a 4.79 ERA in 71.1 innings of work with 67 struck out batters in the process. Jana Lee has a 4.85 ERA in her 94.2 innings of work, she's struck out 66 batters. 
 
UP NEXT:
Texas State will continue its road trip next week, at UTSA on April 15. The Bobcats will resume the second half of its halted game against the Roadrunners from March 26 at 4 pm. The teams will then play an additional game afterwards.
