Baseball Heads to the Tar Heel State to Face Campbell

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The first of two weekend in the state of North Carolina will see Texas State (7-5) play a three-game series at Campbell (4-9). Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT from Jim Perry Stadium. Saturday's contest will start at 2 p.m. CT and Sunday's finale is slated to begin at 12 p.m. CT.

 

Fans can catch Friday's game on FloCollege while neither Saturday's nor Sunday's contests will be streamed. Live stats will be available for all three contests.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE

The Bobcats look to claim its first weekend series since opening weekend. This is the first weekend series that the team will play outside of the state of Texas since a three-game set at Grand Canyon in 2023.

 

Ryne Farber leads the team in batting average (.356), runs (10) and stolen bases (5). He has also hit three doubles, one home run and driven in eight runs. Cameron Thompson is hitting .320 with six runs scored. Also batting over .300 is Ethan Farris at .306 with nine RBI. Austin Eaton has also driven in nine runs while hitting a team-high three home runs.

 

Two changes have been made to the weekend rotation. Taking over on Friday and Saturday will be Jesus Tovar and Alex Valentin, respectively. Tovar has posted a 2.08 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 8.2 innings in two midweek starts. Valentin sports a 2-0 record with a 4.76 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 11.1 innings in three relief appearances and is the reigning Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week. Austin Eaton will start on Sunday and has a 1-1 record, 5.68 ERA and 10 punch outs in 12.2 innings of work.

 

Bryson Dudley and Matthew Tippie have made a team-high five relief appearances. Dudley is 3-1 with a 3.52 ERA and team-high 20 strikeouts over 15.1 innings while Tippie has struck out 11 in 6.2 innings. Carson Laws has a Sun Belt Conference leading three saves and recorded seven punch outs.

 

ABOUT CAMPBELL

The Camels have lost three straight games and four of their last five. They dropped two of three games last weekend to fellow Sun Belt member Georgia Southern and midweek games against Liberty and NC State. Campbell is 4-5 at home this season with a win apiece against Duke, East Carolina, Rider and the Eagles.

 

Darnell Parker, Jr. leads the team with a .432 average, 16 hits and five stolen bases. He has also driven in 11 runs and scored eight times. Andrew Schuldt paces the squad with 14 RBI while hitting .357 with eight doubles and two homers. Also batting over .300 is Joey Morton (.343) and Jett Music (.393) while Jonah Oster comes in with a team-high four round trippers and 11 runs.

 

Taking the hill in the series opener will be Jake Murray. The lefty is 0-1 with a 3.68 ERA and team-high 21 strikeouts over 14.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .218 off him with four doubles and three home runs. Jackson Roberts, who is 2-0 with a 4.63 ERA and 13 strikeouts, will start on Saturday. In the series finale, David Rossow will start. The right-hander is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA and eight strikeouts in eight frames over three starts.

 

Bryce Schares has the team's lone save of the season. He has yet to allow an earned un in five innings and has nine strikeouts. A team-high six relief appearances have been made by Ethan Synder. The sophomore right-hander is 0-1 with a 1.50 ERA, six strikeouts and six free passes in six innings.

 

SERIES VS. CAMELS

This weekend will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Texas State has played 23 games against other North Carolina programs with 22 versus App State and one against Charlotte.
