Bobcats Host Chanticleers for Weekend Series

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State (11-13, 3-3 Sun Belt) wraps up its homestand this weekend when it hosts Coastal Carolina (18-7, 4-2 Sun Belt) for a three-game series at Bobcat Ballpark. Friday's game is slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch followed by 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The finale on Sunday will have an early start time of 11 a.m.

Fans can watch all three games on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Last weekend saw the Bobcat sweep Arkansas State at home for its first conference sweep since 2023. TXST dropped a midweek contest at rival UTSA on Tuesday that saw the team score nine runs over the final three innings.

Ryne Farber leads the team with a .311 batting average, 28 hits, 19 runs, 12 walks and six stolen bases. The sophomore has also recorded 12 RBI and five doubles. Chase Mora has seen his batting average increase 98 points over the past 11 games to .290 that has seen him record 17 hits including a 4-for-4 day on Sunday with two doubles and one home run. He paces the team with 15 RBI and is second with three homers.

Scheduled to make his second straight Friday start is Alex Valentin. The lefty is 4-0 with a 3.77 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 28.2 innings while limiting opponents to a .150 average. Jesus Tovar will get the start on Saturday and enters with a 0-2 record, 6.23 ERA and team-high 30 strikeouts over 21.2 innings. Slated to get the ball in the finale is Jackson Teer. The senior is 1-4 with a 6.35 ERA and 27 punch outs in 22.2 frames.

Both Bryson Dudley and Matthew Tippie have come out of the bullpen 11 times this season. Dudley is 3-1 with one save, 24 strikeouts in 19.2 innings. Tippie has a 1-0 mark, 25 strikeouts and a 3.24 ERA in 16.2 innings. Carson Laws has earned five saves this season while striking out 16 in 14.1 innings to go along with a 3.77 ERA.

ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA
The Chanticleers are coming off an 8-2 win on the road over 3rd-ranked Clemson on Tuesday. CCU is 5-4 in true road games that includes a series loss last weekend at Troy. This weekend wraps up a stretch of playing eight consecutive games on the road.

Five players are hitting over .300 led by Dean Mihos at .344 while also scoring a team-high 29 times. Caden Bodine enters hitting .323 with three homers, 20 RBI and 18 runs. Also hitting three round trippers has been Sebastian Alexander (15 R, 14 RBI) and Ty Dooley (19 R, 11 RBI). A team leading five home runs have come off the bat of Blake Berthol (.252 avg, 21 RBI).

The Chanticleers will send out an all-right-handed rotation beginning with Jacob Morrison on Friday. He is 4-0 with a 2.60 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 27.2 innings. Cameron Flukey, who gets the ball on Saturday, comes in at 2-0, 4.45 ERA and 28 punch outs. Take the mound on Sunday will be Riley Eikhoff, who is 4-1 with a 2.65 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 37.1 innings.

Claiming two saves apiece has been Dominick Carbone (2-0, 2.76 ERA, 23 K) and Scott Doran (3.68 ERA, 10 K). Both Hayden Johnson (2-0, 3.55 ERA, 15 K) and Luke Jones (0-1, 3.45 ERA, 12 K) have earned a save each. Ryan Lynch has made a team-high 11 relief appearance and sports a 1-1 record, 1.32 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 13.2 frames.

SERIES VS. CHANITCLEERS
Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series 11-6 after winning the series in Conway, South Carolina in 2023. Texas State did salvage the series with a 10-8 victory in the finale for the program's first-ever win at Spring Brooks Stadium.

When hosting the Chanticleers, the Bobcats are 4-2 all-time having won both of the previous series. Last time CCU played at Bobcat Ballpark was from Mar. 25-27, 2022 and the first series took place Mar. 17-19, 2017. Both times TXST won the first and third games of the series.
