SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State track and field is set to host the Bobcat Invitational from Thursday through Saturday. The three-day meet will feature athletes from more than 70 teams, along with a mix of professional and unattached athletes.
The Bobcats will also be represented at the Texas Relays in Austin by
Abigail Parra, who will compete in the A section of the women's 1,500 meters at 7:10 p.m. Thursday. Parra holds the school record in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:24.27, which she set last year at the Texas Invitational.
Back at the Bobcat Invitational,
Drew Donley, the top-ranked NCAA athlete in the 200 meters, will compete in the event Friday night at 8:20 p.m. He will also compete in the 100 meters, 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay.
After setting two meet records at the Charles Austin Classic last weekend,
Taejha Badal will return to the track to compete in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay at the invitational. Badal recorded a Sun Belt Conference-leading time of 23.41 seconds and ranks fourth in the conference with a time of 11.61.
Freshman
Mihajlo Katanic, the SBC leader in the 400-meter hurdles, will look to improve on his time of 51.62 on Friday at 6:40 p.m..
In the field events, freshman standout
Charlize Goody will compete in the discus and javelin. Last week, Goody set the freshman record in the javelin with a mark of 51.03 meters, placed first in the discus competition and currently leads the conference in both events.
The four NCAA indoor national qualifiers—
Melanie Duron (women's shot put),
Henry Buckles (men's shot put),
Kason O'Riley (men's high jump) and
Aiden Hayes (men's high jump)—will make their outdoor debuts in their respective events at the Bobcat Invitational.
