LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – Sakke Siltala posted his fourth top 10 finish of the 2024-25 season to lead the Texas State men's golf team at the 40th Louisiana Classics in Lafayette. The junior tied for sixth behind a 4-under 212 performance.
Siltala (67-72-73—212) has now led the Bobcats in back-to-back tournaments and has been the team's top finisher at all but one of six events. He now has 13 rounds at or under par for the season and a team-best 7 in the 60s after his tournament opening 67.
"It was another good week for Sakke as he continues to put himself in position to win golf tournaments," Head coach
Shane Howell said. "A win is coming soon for him."
Jack Burke (72-74-75—221) also started the event strong, going even par on the first 18 and eventually bringing his 54-hole total to +5, good to tie for 35th.
Ben Loveard (+12, T59),
Joel Talusen (+14, T65) and
Jaxon Donaldson (+17, T70) also represented the Bobcats in the lineup.
Competing as an individual,
Enzo Dakiche (73-73-79—225) had a successful outing, turning in his best performance of the season at tied for 49th.
Texas State finished 12th as a team at +27, posting its best round of the tournament on the opening 18 at 1-over. No. 7 LSU (-19) won the event with No. 24 Texas A&M (-17) and host Louisiana (-7) second and third, respectively.
"It was a very humbling experience for our guys this week," Howell added. "We played a championship level golf course against an NCAA regional type of field and we didn't handle it very well. We learned the hard way what we need to do in order to be successful in these type of tournaments."
The Bobcats are back in action Monday and Tuesday, March 17-18, for the All-American Intercollegiate hosting by Houston in Humble, Texas.
