BLANCO, Texas – The Texas State women's golf team posted an 11-stroke victory to earn its first win of the 2024-25 season at the Texas State Invitational Monday and Tuesday at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club. Junior
Yvonne Chamness earned runner-up honors at the event, matching her best finish of the season.
The Bobcats were tied with Houston Christian heading into the final 18 and used a 6-over 294 to secure the victory over the Huskies. Wichita State climbed three spots on the final day with the low round of the tournament at +5 to finish third.
Chamness (73-70-72—215), who also placed second at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in October, finished one stroke back from individual medalist Summer Lee from Oklahoma State after registering birdies on three of the final four holes to finish even par.
In her first collegiate action,
Miren Ontanon (75-73-73-221) recorded an eagle and 11 birdies, also closing out the final holes with three of four in the final round. The freshman was 5-over across 54 holes, good for seventh place.

Ella Salama (81-76-74—231) made her way into the top 20, posting her best round of the tournament on the final day to finish tied for 17th. She rose nine spots on the leaderboard Tuesday by way of a pair of birdies and her second eagle of the event, which led all golfers.
Rounding out the Bobcat lineup were
Carla Bourdeaux (+18, 25th) and
Allie Justiz (+19, 27th).
TXST was also represented by individuals
Mattingly Palmer, who earned herself a top 20 finish at +16, and
Hallie Adare, who finished 42nd.
Texas State is back in action February 24 & 25 at the Chevron Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston.
