Women's Basketball to Close Regular Season at Troy, South Alabama

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State women's basketball will head on the road for games at Troy and South Alabama to close out the 2024-25 regular season.
 
Texas State will head to Troy on Wednesday, Feb. 26 for a 7 pm tip off against the Trojans. The team will then go to Mobile for a 5 pm tip off on Feb. 28 against South Alabama. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
SERIES HISTORY
With the Trojans
  • Texas State has a 12-5 record all-time against the Trojans.
  • Troy won both meeting between the two teams in 2023-24 and won the previous meeting this season between the two sides.
  • Texas State last won against the Trojans on Jan. 16, 2018.
With the Jaguars:
  • Texas State leads the all-time series between the two schools 13-5.
  • Texas State won the previous meeting between these two teams this season by a 65-54 scoreline.
  • Texas State's last loss to South Alabama was in 2024 by a 64-65 scoreline on Feb. 3.
MEET THE ROSTER
  • The Freshmen: Texas State has four freshman, Heather BaymonSaniya BurksTakeira Ramey, and Melinda Winston.
    • Three of the four freshmen played high school basketball in the state of Texas (Burks, Baymon, Winston) while Ramey is the lone freshman coming from out of state.
    • Ramey has suffered a season-ending injury and will miss the remainder of the season.
  • The Transfers: Texas State has added six transfers, including five Division I transfers. 
  • The Returners: Antoine returns five members from 2023-2024 to this year's team.
 
AROUND THE SUN BELT
  • Texas State was picked to finish 10th in the Sun Belt Conference preseason poll. Last season the Bobcats finished 4-14 in conference which that saw them finish 13th in the regular season standings.
  • After week nine of conference play, the Bobcats are 6-10 and sit in 10th place in the Sun Belt.

ABOUT THE TROJANS
  • Troy is currently 18-11 this season and 12-4 in conference play.
  • The Trojans are coming off an 86-71 win over South Alabama last week. The Trojans have won five of their last seven games.
  • The Trojans are led by 13th year head coach Chanda Rigby who carries a 249-154 record in her time with Troy.
  • The Trojans leading scorer is Zay Dyer who has 381 points so far this season, averaging 13.1 a night. Ashley Baez also averages just over 10 points a night.
  • Dyer also leads the team in rebounds with 109 this season.
ABOUT THE JAGUARS
  • South Alabama is currently 6-21 this season and 2-14 in conference play.
  • The Jaguars are coming off a 71-86 loss to Troy last week.
  • South Alabama is led by 2nd year head coach Yolisha Jackson who carries a 15-44 record in her career. 
  • The Jaguars leading scorer is Rachel Leggett who has 357 points so far this season, averaging 13.2 a night. 
  • Daniela Gonzalez leads with 173 rebounds this season.
 
UP NEXT
After the two games this week with Troy and South Alabama, the Bobcats will head to Pensacola for the 2024-25 Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The team will wait to find out their opponent and what day their first game will be on after this weekends games are completed, but the tournament will get underway on Feb. 4 and run through Feb. 10. All games of the tournament will be streamed on ESPN+.
