Bobcats Travel to Take on #1 Texas A&M

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Tuesday will be the fifth straight game for Texas State (5-2) against a Power 4 program when the team travel to College Station to take on No. 1 Texas A&M (5-1). The first pitch at Blue Bell Park is scheduled for 6 p.m.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE

Last week saw the Bobcats go 2-2 with a win apiece against Illinois and then 19th-ranked Oklahoma State. Those victories have increased the program's total to 19 over Power 4 programs since the start of the 2022 season. Tuesday's game will be the first against the top ranked team in the nation since 2022 when Texas State upset Texas in Austin.

 

Ethan Farris paces the squad with a .407 batting average and seven RBI. Ryne Farber is the only other regular batting over .300 at .320. He has driven in six runs, scored five times and swiped three bases, as well. Hitting two of the team's three home runs has been Austin Eaton with the other belonging to Austin Munguia.

 

Slated to start on Tuesday is Jesus Tovar. The lefty struck out six in 4.1 scoreless innings last Tuesday at Globe Life Field against the Cowboys.

 

Bryson Dudley has picked up a win in each of his three appearances out of the bullpen. The right-hander also paces the team with a 0.93 ERA and 16 strikeouts. Carson Laws has a Sun Belt Conference leading three saves and recorded seven punch outs. Both he and Matthew Tippie (3.86 ERA, 8 K) have made four relief appearances.

 

ABOUT TEXAS A&M

The Aggies won their first five games of the season before falling to Cal Poly on Sunday in the series finale. Tuesday is the seventh consecutive home game for TAMU before they hit the road this coming weekend to play in the Astros Foundation College Classic.

 

Leading the team with a .429 average is Terrence Kiel II, who has also scored four times. Hitting over .300 is Jacob Galloway (.357, 1 HR), Wyatt Henseler (.318) and Kaeden Kent (.316, 1 HR). A team leading seven RBI belongs to Hayden Schott. Jace LaViolette comes in hitting just .211 but has a team leading three homers and eight RBI.

 

Right-hander Aiden Sims is scheduled to start on the bump. The freshman from Forney, Texas will be making his collegiate debut.

 

Both Calyton Freshcorn (1-1, 4.50 ERA) and Brad Rudis (1.93 ERA) have made a staff-high three relief appearances. Earning a save on the year has been Luke Jackson (9.00 ERA) and Freshcorn.

 

SERIES VS. AGGIES

Texas A&M leads the all-time series 49-14 and has won the last five matchups. Last season saw the Aggies claim a 12-2 contest in seven innings in San Marcos.

 

When playing in College Station, Texas State is 9-33 all-time with the last three going in TAMU's favor. Last time the Bobcats won was Apr. 9, 2019. That night saw them claim a 5-3 contest that saw TXST score five runs in the first capped off by grand slam off the bat of John Wuthrich.
