SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's golf team opens the spring portion of its season by hosting the Texas State Invitational Monday and Tuesday at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco, Texas.
The Bobcats welcome Central Michigan, Loyola Chicago, UTRGV, Drake, Sacred Heart, Lamar, Wichita State, UIW and Houston Christian to the event, while New Haven and Oklahoma State will send individuals. Wichita State is the only team in the field Texas State has seen so far in 2024-25, finishing ahead of the Shockers at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
TXST closed out fall action by hosting the Jim West Challenge, finishing tied for seventh in the 12-team field. Its best finish came a tournament prior when the Bobcats finished tied for sixth at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate hosted by Denver.
Yvonne Chamness led Texas State at the event, finishing as the event runner-up en route to Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Week honors.
Both Chamness and
Mattingly Palmer have played in all four tournaments for the Bobcats this season, both contributing 10 rounds to the team's score. Chamness also leads the team with a 71.64 stroke average through 11 rounds, which includes five rounds in the 60s.
Freshman
Miren Ontanon will make her first appearance in the lineup after joining the bobcats in January. Ontanon represented Mexico at the 2024 Toyota Junior World Cup in Japan and competed at the 75th U.S. Junior Girls. Most recently, she competed at the World Junior Girls Championship in Canada.
Action opens both days with an 8:15 a.m. CT shotgun start. TXST is paired with UTRGV and Houston Christian for rounds one and two, teeing off from holes No. 1-4. TXST individuals will tee off from Nos. 17 and 18.

Hailey Jones took home the league's newcomer of the year honor, and three Bobcats earned all-conference accolades including Jones,
Junia Gabasa and Chamness. Texas State posted five top five tournament finishes during the 2023-24 season, including a pair of wins.
