SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sunday will be the first time fans can get a look at the 2025-26 Texas State men's basketball team in action when it hosts an exhibition game against Huston-Tillotson. The contest is scheduled to tipoff at 4 p.m. in Strahan Arena.

TXST is coming off a 16-16 campaign with victories over three of the four co-Sun Belt Conference regular season champions. Head Coach
Terrence Johnson brought in 12 new players with seven being Division I transfers, three high schoolers and two junior college transfers.
Both
Mark Drone and
Kaden Gumbs were named to the All-Sun Belt Preseason Second and Third Teams, respectively. Drone averaged 11.5 points, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game over 10 contests. He scored double-digits four times including a career-high 30 points in just his second game in a Bobcat uniform at Southern Miss.
Gumbs finished last season with 11.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. He knocked down 45.8% of his shots and 86.8% of his free throw attempts. The San Marcos native recorded one double-double (27 points, 10 rebounds vs. McMurry) and flirted with a triple-double against Georgia Southern with 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
About Huston-Tillotson
The Rams finished last season 11-16 with an 11-13 record in the Red River Athletic Conference. This season is their first as members of the HBCU Athletic Conference, which was formerly known as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. In the league's preseason poll, Huston-Tillotson was picked to finish seventh out of 15 teams.
Seven Rams are back from last season led by Cade Holzman, who put up 10.3 ppg and 4.6 rpg while adding 19 steals and 16 blocks in 14 games including 13 starts. Braelon Seals contributed 8.9 ppg and 32 steals in 25 appearances and made 24 starts. Both Ja'Patrick Blackmon (5.0 ppg) and Blake Fisher (5.7 ppg) added five or more points a contest with 23 and 13 steals, respectively.
