Bobcats Sign Oklahoma Prep Standout Thompson

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State men's basketball head coach Terrence Johnson announced the signing of Demetrus Thompson to the program for the 2025-26 season on Thursday.

"We have really been selective over the years regarding high school prospects. We think we found a good one late in Deke," said Johnson. "He has great positional size and length, plus his ability to shoot the ball from beyond the arc makes him a threat at all times. Deke has a chance to be an impact player here and we're excited he is a Bobcat."

Thompson wrapped up his prep career at Sand Springs High School in Oklahoma. This past year saw him be named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association Large East All-State Team, Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association All-Region 7 Team, the Tulsa World All-Basketball First Team and District 4-6A Player of the Year.

He averaged 21.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals to lead the Sandites to a 20-6 record as a senior. In his two years at San Springs, Thompson scored 1,085 points (20.4 ppg), 320 rebounds, 136 assists, 126 made three-pointers and 105 steals.
