NEW ORLEANS – Texas State linebacker
Treylin Payne was today named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the week for his record-setting performance at Marshall on Saturday.
The San Antonio, Texas, native set the TXST program record for single-game tackles with 24 and was one shy of tying the Sun Belt Conference record. The Bobcat mark was previously set by Brad Fulks, who collected 23 against Texas A&M Kingsville in 1988. Payne also added 1.5 TFLs in the contest.
The senior leads TXST with 66 total tackles, including 30 solo in 2025. He also has 4.0 TFLs for 11 yards and 2.0 sacks for nine.
Payne had a team-best two interceptions in his first season with the Bobcats after transferring from Houston prior to the 2024 season. In 13 games, Payne collected 28 tackles, including 16 solo.
The honor is the first for Payne and the first for a TXST player in 2025.
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday, October 28 when they host James Madison on ESPN2. Kick is set for 7 p.m. CT.
