SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team (7-2-5, 4-0-3 Sun Belt) is back at the Bobcat Soccer Complex this weekend when it hosts Southern Miss (2-11-1, 1-6-0 Sun Belt) for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The match will be streamed on ESPN+ and fans can follow live stats that will also be available. Admission to the match, and all home contests, is free.
About Texas State
On Monday, the Bobcats played to its second straight 1-1 draw when Coastal Carolina scored the match-tying goal with just over seven minutes left on the clock. TXST is undefeated in its last seven matches overall and last 14 Sun Belt Conference homes matches. A spot in the conference tournament can be clinched by Texas State with either a win or draw or a loss if both App State and the Chanticleers don't win their matches this weekend.
Both
Constance Agyemang and
Helen Alormenu have scored a team-high five goals. The duo of
Katrin Agustsdottir and
Mady Soumare have tallied four goals apiece while
Victoria Meza has found the back of the net three times.
Matsuri Tsutsui and Alormenu enter the contest with a team leading four assists. Six other Bobcats have been credited with three assists.
Between the posts,
Brooklyn Escobar has started all 14 matches. The freshman heads into the match with a 1.24 GAA, 43 saves and a .729 save percentage for the season. In conference play, she is sporting a 0.57 GAA, made 19 stops and has a .826 save percentage.
About Southern Miss
The Golden Eagles come into the weekend having lost five straight and have been outscored in that span 24-3. Their lone Sun Belt victory was a 1-0 match at Troy on Sept. 18. Losses have been to Arkansas State, Georgia State, Louisiana, Old Dominion, South Alabama and ULM. When playing on the road, USM is 1-6-0 with league matches against the Panthers, Ragin' Cajuns and Trojans.
Ryan Smith has scored a team-high three goals. Adding two goals apiece are Rhyleigh Marks, Raquelle Mitchell and Chloe Taylor. An assist apiece has been registered by Eduarda Flores Fuculo, Zayla Reagan, Lorilee Taylor and Mitchell.
In goal, Maddie Ellis has started 13 of the team's 14 matches. She has surrendered 34 goals for a 3.47 GAA with 53 saves and a .609 save percentage. Eight appearances, including one start, have been made by Lena Blake. The redshirt junior has given up nine goals for a 2.54 GAA and made 14 saves for a .609 save percentage.
Series History
Texas State leads the all-time series 2-0-2. Both Bobcat victories were by 1-0 scores in Hattiesburg. Last season, TXST won on the road courtesy of a goal by Soumare.
Only time the teams have played in San Marcos was in the regular season finale on Oct. 26, 2023. Texas State scored twice in the first 27 minutes before Southern Miss scored three straight times.
Chloe Jones netted the match-tying goal with one second left on the clock for her first career goal.
