Soccer Hits the Road to Take on Red Wolves

SAN MARCOS, Texas – After playing the last two matches at home, Texas State (6-2-3, 3-0-1 Sun Belt) is back on the road for Thursday's contest at Arkansas State (2-3-4, 0-2-2 Sun Belt). Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 4 p.m. from the A-State Soccer Park.
 
The match will be streamed on ESPN+ and fans can follow live stats that will also be available.
 
About Texas State
The Bobcats enter the contest leading the Sun Belt with 10 points. It is the first time they have been alone at the top of the standings after four matches since 2018. When playing on the road, TXST is 2-0-2 with victories at Georgia Southern and Incarnate Word while drawing at Texas A&M and ULM.
 
Netting a team-high four goals apiece has been Katrin Agustsdottir, Contance Agyemang and Helen Alormenu. In conference play, Victoria Meza and Mady Soumare have found the back of the net twice while each has scored thrice overall.
 
A team leading assists have been credited to both Matsuri Tsutsui and Alormenu with the trio of Lilah Dupree, Chloe Jones and Agustsdottir having three apiece. In Sun Belt action, two assists have been recorded by Alormenu and Soumare.
 
Brooklyn Escobar has started all 11 matches in goal. She enters Thursday with a 1.41 GAA having made 37 saves with a .725 save percentage. In conference play, the freshman has posted a 0.50 GAA, made 13 stops for a .867 save percentage and recorded two shutouts.
 
About Arkansas State
The Red Wolves are coming off two losses last week with a 3-0 setback at Marshall and a 1-0 loss at home to ULM. Their first two Sun Belt matches ended in draws to Louisiana and Troy. At home, ASU is 2-1-2 with victories over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi while the lone non-conference draw was a 2-2 contest against Stephen F. Austin.
 
Kennedy Horn is tied for the Sun Belt lead with seven goals, four of which came against UAPB. She also has two assists, taken 16 shots and placed 10 on frame. Alexia Watts has added three goals and two assists while both Rylee Bernard and Leigha Dobbins have netted two goals each. Keelyn Peacock paces the squad with four assists and is second with 20 shot attempts behind Lucia Flores' 21.
 
In goal, Damaris Deschaine has started all nine matches. She has allowed 10 goals for a 1.52 GAA and made 28 saves for a .737 save percentage. Taylor Sweat has appeared in five contests off the bench to sport a 0.95 GAA with seven saves and a .778 save percentage in 189:14 minutes of action.
 
Series History
The all-time series is tied 6-6-3, however ASU had three of its wins over the 2020 and 2021 seasons vacated due to NCAA rule violations. Last two times the teams have faced off has ended in a draw with a 2-2 result last season in San Marcos and a scoreless contest in Jonesboro in 2023.
 
Sept. 17, 2022 was the last time a victory was claimed in the series with the Bobcats winning 2-1 that day at home.
 
When playing in Jonesboro, Texas State is 2-3-1 all-time. The most recent win was a 1-0 contest on Sept. 24, 2017.
