SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State director of track and field/cross country, John Frazier, announced on Wednesday that the program signed 11 athletes during the signing period.
"We have had the best recruiting class in our Sprints/ Hurdles group since I've been here with Texas and International athletes," said Frazier. "All these student athletes will come in and do a tremendous job for the success of Texas State Track and Field."
Five of the 11 athletes signed, Drew Donley, David Mendez-Serrato, Mihajilo Katanic, Charlize Goody and Danie Strooh, will be joining the team for the start of the 2025 season.
The Bobcats inked six athletes for their sprints/hurdles team, four for their throws squad and one athlete for the distance program.
Ja'Shaun Lloyd | Hurdles
Ja'Shaun Lloyd, from Corsicana, Texas, is one of the nation's top high school hurdlers. Last season, he placed second in the 110-meter hurdles at the 5A UIL State Championships with a time of 13.85. He also finished ninth in the 110-meter hurdles finals at the Nike Outdoor Nationals and 10th in the prelims at the USA U20 Outdoor Championships. He also recorded the second-fastest time in the country for the 60m hurdles () at the Texas A&M HS Indoor Championships.
Ty'Shaun Lloyd | Sprints
Also from Corsicana, Texas, is talented sprinter Ty'Shaun Lloyd. Lloyd competed in the 400 meters at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships last year and placed 22nd with a time of 49.21. He was also part of the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, which placed 12th and 17th, respectively, at the USATF Junior Olympic Championships.
JR Bonner | Sprints
JR Bonner, from Round Rock, Texas, is another talented sprinter who will join the Bobcats next season. Bonner holds the second-best time in Cedar Ridge High School history for the 200 meters (21.13) and the fourth-best time in the 100 meters (10.59).
Mihajlo Katanic | Hurdles
Mihajlo Katanic is a two-time national indoor champion from Serbia. Katanic holds titles in both the 4x400-meter relay and the 400 meters from the Serbian Indoor Championships. He also recorded a time of 47.95 in the 400 meters to place first in the final of the Serbian Cup. In the 400-meter hurdles, he has a PR time of 50.98.
Drew Donley | Sprints
Drew Donley spent the past two years as a wide receiver for the Texas State football team and recently joined the track team as part of the sprints squad. Donley placed second in the 100 meters at the 2021 5A UIL State Championships and recorded multiple sub-11.00-second times in the 100 meters during his senior season.
Danie Strooh | Throws
From South Africa, Danie Strooh will join the Bobcats for their 2025 season. Strooh won the U23 South African Championships in the discus throw and placed third in the discus throw at the South African Championships with a personal best of 56.68 meters. He was also the African U20 champion in the discus throw. Bosting a PR of 62.94 meters with the 1.75k discus and formerly #1 ranked on the World U20 Discus List in 2023.
Tanner Major | Throws
Tanner Major will join the Bobcats next year and is one of seven signees from Texas. Competing for Johnson High School in Buda, Texas, Major qualified for the UIL 6A Region IV meet in both the shot put and discus throw last season.
Adam Carter | Throws
Adam Carter, from Katy, Texas, made history last year by becoming the first shot put athlete in Katy High School history to win the regional meet and qualify for the UIL State Championships. Carter placed second in the shot put at the UIL 6A State Championships with a mark of 60 feet, 6.75 inches. Carter is also a talented football player and was named the Co-MVP of District 19-6A
Charlize Goody | Throws
Charlize Goody, from Australia, will join the Bobcats' throws team for the 2025 season. Goody placed second in the discus throw at the Australian Championships with a personal best of 52.30 meters. She also placed second in the javelin throw at the U20 Australian Championships and has a personal best of 48.55 meters in the event.
David Mendez-Serrato | Distance
After spending three seasons at Texas A&M, David Mendez-Serrato will compete with the Bobcats for his senior season. During his time with the Aggies, the Lockhart, Texas, native recorded a personal best of 3:56.99 in the 1,500 meters and set a personal best of 4:15.88 in the mile.
Philip Reed | Hurdles
The Bobcats gained another talented Hurdler, with the signing of Plano East's Phillip Reed. Reed placed sixth at the 2024 UIL State Championships in the 300 meter hurdles and set a new PR of 37.95. He also placed seventh in the 110m hurdles at the state championships and recorded a PR of 13.98 in the regional meet two weeks before. He began the 2025 indoor season with a fifth-place finish at the Texas A&M HS Indoor Championships in the 60m hurdles and earned a new personal record of 7.86. At the 2024 Nike Outdoor Nationals, he recorded a 55.49 second PR in the 400m hurdles.
