Bobcats Shine at TXST Fall Invite

Texas State earned 15 wins in singles play and six wins in doubles action

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's tennis completed its first fall tournament of the 2024 season on Sunday. At the TXST Fall Invite, the Bobcats earned 15 singles wins during the two days of competition and won six doubles contests. The TXST Fall Invite consisted of Texas State, McNeese State, Tarleton State and SFA. 
 
Texas State Fall Invite Day One 
The Bobcats began day one of the TXST Fall invite with a doubles match against SFA and followed with two singles matches versus McNeese State and Tarleton State. 
 
In the doubles round against SFA, the Bobcats split the matchup 2-2. On court number five, Ireland Simme made her Texas State debut with her partner Emily Niers and won their match 6-1 over SFA's Sonja Rooth and Ana Chavez Sanchez. 
 
Freshman Chantajah Mills secured the first doubles victory of her Texas State career on court seven with her partner Kiana Graham. Mills and Graham defeated the pair of Avery Kinsey and Alkmini Giannakogiorgou 6-3. 
 
Next up for the Bobcats was a singles match versus McNeese State. Texas State won six of the seven singles matchups against the Cowgirls. Kiana Graham won her first singles match of her senior season in dominate fashion 6-0,6-2. 
 
Fellow seniors Callie Creath and Sofia Fortuno also secured their first wins of their senior campaign against McNeese State. On court six, Creath won in straight sets 6-4 and 6-4, while Fortuno, playing on court seven, also won in straight sets 6-3 and 6-1. 
 
Shortly after securing her first doubles win, Simme defeated McNeese's Toffee Ghorab 2-1 in the first set and won the match after Ghorab retired due to injury. Joining Simme in securing her first singles victory in the maroon and gold was freshman Tadiwa Mauchi. The freshman won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 on court eight.
 
Maria Lora secured the final victory for Texas State on court number seven. Despite dropping the first set 2-6, Lora battled back to secure the match by winning set two 6-0 and set three 13-11. 
 
To end day one of the TXST Fall Invite, Texas State defeated Tarleton State 5-3 in their singles bout. Graham cruised to a victory on court No. 4, winning in straight sets 6-1 and 6-2. 
 
Creath and Fortuno both found wins in their second singles matches of the season. Creath dropped her first set 4-6 but bounced back to win sets two and three 6-3, 10-5. Fortuno earned her second straight-set victory of the day, when she defeated Tarleton's Duru Kuscu 6-1 and 6-0. 
 
Newcomers, Simme and Mauchi earned their second singles wins as Bobcats to wrap up the action on day one. Simme won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1, while Mauchi dropped her first set 5-7 but earned wins in sets two and three 6-2, 10-6 to earn her second singles win on the day.
 
TXST Fall Invite Day Two 
Texas State opened day two of the TXST Fall Invite with a doubles match against Tarleton State and spilt the doubles round 2-2 with the Texans. The pair of Fortuno and Lora won their first match of the season 6-1 on court number four against Duru Kuscu and Ximena Morlaes Araneda. 
 
The freshman and senior pair of Mills and Graham secured their second win of the Invitational with a 6-4 victory on court seven. 
 
Following the doubles matchup with the Texans, the Bobcats faced off against McNeese State for their second doubles bout of the day. Texas State secured two wins against the Cowgirls, with the first win coming on court four, courtesy of Fortuno and Lora. The pair won 6-3 against Salome Fluri and Ana Hollweg. 
 
The Bobcat's second win against McNeese State came on court seven, when Graham and Mills defeated their opponents 6-2. The pair is now 3-0 on the season in doubles matches. 
 
The Bobcats ended the final day of the TXST Fall Invite with a singles matchup versus SFA. Texas State and SFA split round 3 of the singles competition 4-4. Kiana Graham won her match 6-1,7-6 (5) on court seven and earned her third victory of the weekend.
 
On court six, Emily Niers found her first win of the season with a 6-2, 6-0 straight-set victory against Sonja Rooth. 
 
Freshmen Tadiwa Mauchi and Chantajah Mills were the two other Bobcats to gather wins during round three of singles. Mauchi won her match 6-2, 6-4 and Mills won in three sets 6-4, 1-6 and 11-9. Mauchi is now 3-0 in singles play, while Mills sits at 1-1 on the year. 
 
Texas State women's tennis returns to action September 20-22, when they head to Denton, Texas to compete in the Diving Eagle Invite.
