ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – The Texas State women's golf team closed out action Tuesday at the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the UNM Championship Course.

Yvonne Chamness held steady in the final round of the 54-hole tournament, finishing 2-over on Tuesday to place tied for 12th (73-72-74—219) at the event.
Texas State finished 12th at the event, while Long Beach State took home the team title ahead of UNLV and Pepperdine.
"It was great to get the season going and see our team play," head coach
Par Nilsson said. "I thought Yvonne played very well to help lead the group."
Also representing Texas State in Albuquerque were returners
Carla Bourdeaux, who put together a three-round 10-over 226 including carding a 73 in the opening round, and
Mattingly Palmer, who posted her best round of her tournament at 75 in the closing round to finish at 19-over 235.
Newcomers
Allie Justiz and
Ella Salama also made the trip for TXST, finishing tied for 65th and tied for 68th, respectively.
"We are very young this year and it was great to see our two freshmen competing," Nilsson said. "Ella and Allie are both very talented and have great attitudes. They will contribute a lot to this team."
The Bobcats are back in action September 20-22 at the Schooner Fall Classic at the Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma.
