BRYAN, Texas – All five players in Texas State's lineup were within two strokes of each other after the first round of the NCAA Bryan Regional as the Bobcats ended Monday tied for seventh and only four strokes back of the top-five at the Traditions Golf Club (Par 72, 6,376 yards).
 
Hailey Jones (74), Yvonne Chamness (74), Matilda Svahn (74), Junia Gabasa (75) and Fia Lindblom (76) finished in the top-half of the individual leaderboard, but with the top-four scores combining for the Bobcats' team score, Texas State finished the first round tied with Vanderbilt for seventh with a 9-over 297.
 
Chamness, Gabasa and Svahn combined to go 1-under on the back-nine while Jones was nearly bogey-free over her final 15 holes.
 
Texas State trails Ohio State (6-over 294) by three shots for sixth and Iowa State (5-over 293) for fifth. The top-five teams from the NCAA Regional advance to the NCAA Championships.
 
SMU and LSU are tied for first with 2-under 286. Texas A&M (1-under 287) was the only other team to shoot under par in round one.
 
The Bobcats tied with Clemson for the fourth-most birdies (11) in the opening round. Gabasa, Svahn and Lindlbom led the team with three birdies apiece.
 
Texas State will tee off at 8:50 am in the second round on Tuesday.
