SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sakke Siltala was named All-Sun Belt Second Team while
Jack Burke and
Marcelo Garza were both named All-Sun Belt Third Team as the Sun Belt Conference office announced its complete list of 2024 all-conference awards on Monday.
Â
The three All-Sun Belt honorees are the most Texas State has ever had in a season in program history.
Â
Siltala, who is the first Bobcat to earn All-Sun Belt Second Team since Evan White in 2022, led the team in scoring average (71.70) and birdies. The sophomore out of Finland had three top-10 finishes, including two in the top-five, and had a season-best third-place finish at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in March. He led the way for Texas State with 21 of his 24 rounds scoring for the team in eight tournaments.
Â
Burke played in all 10 tournaments for the Bobcats and helped the team finish top-four in three, including a win at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The junior from Orange, Texas had 13 rounds of under par and a season-low 54-hole score of 208. He, along with Siltala, earned Sun Belt Golfer of the Week honors this spring.
Â
Garza was second on the team in stroke average (72.33) and had a pair of top-10 finishes, including a tied-for-sixth placing at the All-American Intercollegiate in March. He turned in four 54-hole scores of even par or better and had 16 total rounds of par or under par. The senior out of Mexico played in all 10 tournaments and his scores counted for the team in 26 of the 30 rounds.
Â
The all-conference honors were the first of the trio's respective careers.
Â
Sun Belt head coaches voted for the awards. A coach could not vote for their own player.
Texas State completed its regular season last week at the Sun Belt Conference Championship. It finished tied for third in stroke play and reached the semifinals of the match play portion of the tournament.
