MADISON, Miss. – Texas State posted the third-best second round team score on day two of the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship at the Annandale Golf Club and climbed three spots on the leaderboard to sit only one stroke back of the top-four teams.
 
The Bobcats shot 1-over 289 in the second round of stroke play, which trailed Arkansas State (281) and ULM (287) for the best team scores on Tuesday. Texas State's second round score was a 14-stroke improvement from Monday's first round.
 
Lifted by the 1-over, Texas State moved up to sixth on the team leaderboard and only trail Southern Miss and Troy by one shot for fourth. The top-four teams from stroke play, which wraps up on Wednesday, advance to match play on Thursday to determine the conference champion. The Bobcats are currently 16-over (303-289; 592) for the tournament.
 
Arkansas State leads the way with a 7-under 569 (288-281) while ULM is second with a 10-over 586 (299-287).
 
Powering the climb for the Bobcats was Marcelo Garza, who shot 2-under 70 on Tuesday and moved into the top-10 of the individual leaderboard. The senior climbed 22 spots and is tied for 9th with a 2-over 146 (76-70) for the tournament. He is nine shots back of the leader, Thomas Schmidt of Arkansas State (7-uner 137; 68-69).
 
Kasper Nyland also moved up the individual leaderboard on Tuesday after carding an even-par 72. The senior had two birdies and four pars over his final six holes and will enter the final round tied for 19th with a 4-over 148 (76-72).
 
Tom Roed Karlsen, who substituted into the lineup for Pieter Rossouw on Tuesday, played a role in Texas State's second round score by turning in an even-par 72. He was 2-under on the back nine, including a birdie on the 18th.
 
Jack Burke's 3-over 75 was the fourth and final round to count for Texas State's second round team score. He is tied for 49th for the tournament with a 9-over 153 (78-75).
