Tennis Begins Conference Play With Road Matchup

The Bobcats hit the road to face Southern Miss

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's tennis heads to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to begin conference play on Saturday against Southern Miss. The Bobcats will face the Golden Eagles at 10 am at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex.  

The Bobcats head into Saturday with a six-match winning streak, which is the Bobcats' best streak since 2014. A seventh straight victory for the Bobcats would be their most since the 2012 season, when they won nine matches in a row. 

Andrea Pineda leads the Bobcats in singles with a 6-1 record. Pineda also holds a six-match winning streak while playing on court No. 4 and No. 5.  

On courts one and two, Callie Creath has secured five wins for the Bobcats this season and heads into Saturday's competition with a four-match winning streak.  

The doubles duo of Sofia Fortuno and Maria Lora look to continue their winning ways, as they have won five of their last six matches on court two. The pair leads the team in doubles wins with an overall record of 5-1. 

Southern Miss  
The Golden Eagles have an overall record of 4-4 coming into the match and are coming off a 4-1 victory over Alcorn State.  

Southern Miss senior Suhana Das is the leader in singles wins for the team with a 3-1 record on the season. Das is also undefeated on court one in doubles with her partner Alyssa Richter.  

This will be the second matchup between the Bobcats and the Golden Eagles. Southern miss won the first matchup between the schools last year when they defeated Texas State 5-2 in San Marcos.
