LAFAYETTE, La. – Kasper Nyland turned in his best finish of the season and Texas State men's golf wrapped up the Louisiana Classics with a 7-over 295 in Tuesday's final round to place ninth for the tournament at Oakbourne Country Club (Par 72, 6,898 yards).
Â
The Bobcats shot 10-over 874 (289-290-295) for the two-day event. They were two strokes back of eighth and 10 back from cracking the top-five.
Â
Nyland carded a 1-over 217 (71-72-74) to place in a tie for 18th, which was his best finish at a tournament since the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in March 2023 (T-4th).
Â
Only five of the 15 teams in the field shot even par or better for the tournament, led by the tournament-winner Texas A&M who carded a 31-under 833 (276-282-275).
Â
"Another solid week for us in a tough field of teams," said
Shane Howell, Texas State head coach. "We need to clean up our par-4 scoring so we can be more consistent from round to round. For us to win tournaments, we need to be dominant in this area."
Â
The Bobcats were top-seven in par-3 (+10) and par-4 (-11) scoring for the tournament but were 12th in par-4 scoring (+26).
Â
Tom Roed Karlsen was the next highest finisher for the Bobcats as he tied for 26th with a 2-over 218 (74-72-72). He and Nyland were the only Bobcats to turn in two rounds of even-par or better in the tournament.
Â
Marcelo Garza bounced back from his second round with an even-par 72 on Tuesday to score the Bobcats.
Â
Texas State will return to action next week with the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble.
