Baseball Faces HCU and Tarleton State in Midweek Action

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State (7-8) has a busy week beginning with two midweek games. First up is the program's first-ever trip to Stephenville, Texas to take on Tarleton State (10-7) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Tarleton Baseball Complex followed by a Wednesday contest at Bobcat Ballpark against HCU (7-9) that is also scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
 
Fans can watch both games on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.

Tuesday: TXST RHP Cameron Bush (0-0, 4.91 ERA) vs. TSU RHP Jake Burcham (0-1, 10.13 ERA)
Wednesday: TXST TBA vs. HCU TBA
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats will be looking to snap a five-game winless streak, the team's longest since dropping the last nine games of the 2021 season. They are currently in the midst of playing nine out of 10 games at Bobcat Ballpark with Tuesday's game being the lone road contest.
 
Ryne Farber leads the team with a .393 batting average, 17 runs scored and 11 walks. The freshman has also hit four doubles and driven in 13 runs. Also hitting over .300 is Alec Patino (13 R, 9 RBI) and Daylan Pena (7 RBI) at .352 and .317, respectively.
 
A team-high five home runs have been hit by Aaron Lugo, who has scored 13 times and plated 10. Chase Mora leads TXST with 19 RBI while also hitting three round trippers.
 
Scheduled to start on Tuesday is Cameron Bush. It will be his 13th career start and first this season. The senior right-hander has made four relief appearances and tossed 3.2 innings for a 4.91 ERA this season. Wednesday's starter is still to be announced.
 
ABOUT TARLETON STATE
The Texans enter Tuesday on a two-game losing streak and have lost three of their last four. They are 6-2 at home with wins over Abilene Christian, Northern Colorado (4x) and UTSA.
 
Tyson Drake leads the program with a .333 average and 18 runs scored while ranking second with six stolen bases. Cole Miears has a team best 19 hits, 14 RBI and scored 12 times. Trace Morrison has a team-high 15 RBI while Brandon Howell (13 RBI) has hit four homers.
 
Right-hander Jake Burcham will get the ball first on Tuesday. He is 0-1 with a 10.13 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 8.0 innings. The junior has pitched in five games with one start that came against Northern Colorado on Feb. 24.
 
SERIES VS. THE TEXANS
Tuesday will be just the second-ever meeting between the teams. Tarleton State won the only other game by a 2-1 score on Apr. 27, 1988 in San Marcos.
 
ABOUT HCU
Entering the week, the Huskies have lost three straight games after being swept at Southern Illinois. They are 0-6 away from Houston with a 0-5 mark in true road games. HCU's two previous midweek games were losses at Sam Houston and Texas.
 
William Jewel is batting a team best .381 with two homers and eight RBI. Also hitting over .300 is Samuel Benjamin (.339) and Trevor Roper (.371). Benjamin paces the squad with 17 runs scored and five stolen bases. Tyler LaRue leads the Huskies with four home runs and 16 RBI.
 
The starter for Wednesday is still to be announced.
 
SERIES VS. THE HUSKIES
Texas State has dominated the all-time series with a 17-1 advantage. The Bobcats are 13-0 when hosting HCU including a 13-7 win last season. The lone loss to the Huskies was a 7-5 contest in Houston on Feb. 19, 2020.
