SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's tennis is on the road this weekend for its final nonconference match of the season as the Bobcats (5-2) will face UTRGV (5-3) on Saturday at the Orville Cox Tennis Complex at 10 am. The Bobcats are looking to secure their sixth straight victory, a feat that has not been accomplished since the 2014 season.
Texas State has four players in singles that are on winning streaks of three-matches-or-better heading into Saturday. In the past three matchups, Callie Creath has been featured on court No. 1 and No. 2 and won all three in straight sets.
Emily Niers and Sofia Fortuno join Creath in having a three-match winning streak heading into Saturday. Niers has done it in straight sets on courts No. 2 and No. 3 while Fortuno has two straight-set wins at court No. 4 and a three-set win on No. 3.
Andrea Pineda, on courts No. 4 and No. 5, has the longest winning streak heading into the weekend. Pineda has won her last five matches, including the last two matches in straight sets.
UTRGV
The Vaqueros head into the match with the Bobcats holding a 5-3 record and are coming off a 5-2 win over Texas A&M Kingsville on Wednesday.
UTRGV is led by junior Marjorie Souza, who holds a 5-1 record on court No. 1 and a 1-0 record in the No. 2 position. Souza earned All-WAC second team honors last season.
HISTORY
This will be the 31st matchup between the Bobcats and the Vaqueros, with their first match dating back to 1986. Texas State holds a 26-4 series lead, despite losing the 2023 matchup 5-2.
