Bobcats Capture Texas State Invitational

Hailey Jones won the individual title as the only player to shoot under par for the tournament

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – Texas State women's golf beat out the second-place team by 48 strokes -- a school-record for the largest margin of victory -- to win the 2024 Texas State Invitational at the Landa Park Golf Course (Par 71, 5,915 yards) on Tuesday. Graduate student Hailey Jones won the individual medalist honors after being the only player in the 80-person field to finish under par for the entire tournament.

The win marked the second year in a row that the Bobcats picked up the team title at the Texas State Invitational. For Jones, it was her second collegiate career individual victory and first since the fall of 2021.

"I'm proud of the team starting our spring season this way!" said Texas State head coach Par Nilsson. "Winning by 48 was great. We had a goal to be aggressive and keep pushing no matter what the other teams did, and I would say we succeeded with that."

The Bobcats won the team title thanks to their top-four players in the lineup finishing in the top-seven of the individual leaderboard. Jones shot 2-under 211 (70-69-72) to lead the way while sophomore Yvonne Chamness was 3-over 216 (72-71-73) to finish in sole possession of second place. Freshman Carla Bourdeaux (+7, 220) and junior Matilda Svahn (+8, 221) placed sixth and tied for seventh, respectively.

The final player in the lineup, Marine Griffaut, was the only player to shoot under par in the final round on Tuesday as she finished with a 1-under 70 and finished tied for 12th with a 12-over 225 (77-78-70) for the three rounds. The senior was tied with three others for the most spots gained in Tuesday's final round (16).

Texas State had three individuals playing in the tournament, a group that was led by freshman Fia Lindblom who tied for seventh with an 8-over 221 (73-74-74). Mattingly Palmer, meanwhile, finished tied for 19th with a 16-over 229 (81-73-75), and Hallie Adare placed 57th with a 29-over 242 (82-75-85).

Texas State led all teams with 41 birdies and 171 par saves. Bourdeaux led all players with 11 birdies while Jones was the leader with 44 pars.

The Bobcats return to action on Feb. 16 when they take on Sam Houston in match play at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle, Texas.
