DALLAS – Coming off a historic freshman campaign in 2023, Texas State's
Chase Mora was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Preseason All-America Second Team on Tuesday at second base. He is one of six players from the Sun Belt Conference on one of the three teams.
Â
Mora led the Bobcats with 17 home runs to set a new freshman record and tie for the fourth most in a season in program history. The Tomball, Texas native batted .316 and tied for the team lead with 62 base knocks, of which he totaled 13 doubles and one triple to post a team-high .653 slugging percentage.
Â
He also finished with 57 RBI, 39 runs scored and stole two bases.
Â
Mora began his collegiate career by becoming the first player in NCAA history to hit a homer in each of his first three career plate appearances. The infielder also set the Sun Belt and Texas State single-game record with four home runs, doing so against North Dakota State on Mar. 13, 2023. His nine RBI that day tied both the conference and Bobcat records.
Â
Twice he was named the Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week while also claiming the NCBWA Dick Howser Trophy Hitter of the Week and Sun Belt Player of the Week honors once apiece. Perfect Game named Mora to its 2023 Freshman All-American Second Team at second base.
Â
Mora and the rest of the Texas State squad open the 2024 season on Friday, Feb. 16 at Bobcat Ballpark against Youngstown State at 6 p.m.
