Bobcats Earn Second Win of the Weekend

Texas State defeated Lamar 6-1

Box Score NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team collected it's fourth win in a row on Sunday and second of the weekend, when they defeated Lamar university 6-1. 
 
For the second day in a row, the Bobcats swept all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. The Bobcats carried their momentum into the singles portion of the match and won five of the six singles matches. 
 
"Another great team win for us," said Texas State head coach Kendall Brooks. "Really Happy with how our doubles is coming together again and each player and singles got the job done once again. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going into next week." 
 
DOUBLES 
The doubles pair of Sofia Fortuno and Maria Lora improved their winning streak to three in a row as they defeated Lamar's Elena Rubio and Natalia Turczuk 7-5 on court two. 
 
Mae McCutcheon and Jadeh Chan recorded their second doubles win of the weekend on court one, when they defeated Megan Do and Leah Kuruvilla 7-5. Do and Kuruvilla were 3-1 on the season coming into this match. This win secured the lone doubles point for the Bobcats. 
 
The sweep was completed when Emily Niers and Emma Carr defeated Lamar's unbeaten doubles pair of Marika Mueller and Jayci Wong 6-4 on court three. 
 
SINGLES 
Emily Niers kept the momentum rolling for the Bobcats during the singles portion of the match on court two. Niers put away Lamar's Kuruvilla in a straight set victory 6-3,6-1. Niers has now won back-to-back matches in straight sets on court two. 
 
On court one, Callie Creath earned her second victory at No. 1 and earned the third overall point for the Bobcats. Creath was matched against Marika Mueller, who had a 4-2 record on the year. She made quick work of Mueller winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. 
 
For the second day in a row, Fortuno secured the match winning point with her singles victory. Despite falling short in the first set on court three, she bounced back and won the last two sets 6-3 and 1-0 (10-1).  
 
No. 4 Andrea Pineda and No. 6 Jacqueline Schnabel earned two more points for the Bobcats on their respective courts. Pineda won in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 and Schnabel won her first set 6-4 and after dropping the second set 6-2, bounced back and won the third set 6-2.

After back-to-back weekends on the road, the Bobcats are back in action at home where they will face New Mexico State on Friday, February 23rd at 1 p.m.
