Tennis defeats SFA 4-0

The Bobcats won the lone doubles point and the first three singles points

Box Score NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Texas State women's tennis team won its third match in a row – and first road match of the weekend – with a 4-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday.

The Bobcats (3-2) quickly secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two and continued that momentum into the singles matches where they won three straight matches to give SFA its second loss of the season.

"This was a gritty win on a very cold, windy day," said Texas State head coach Kendall Brooks. "We came out and took all three doubles matches and I think that was a huge momentum boost for us. Then everyone just went out and did their job in singles and we got it done. Happy to finally get to compete again and looking forward to one more tomorrow."

Doubles
Sofia Fortuno and Maria Lora on court two secured the first doubles win of the match with a 6-2 victory over SFA's Ksenia Mamontova and Carolina Chiatti, who were 4-0 on the season entering the day. Fortuno and Lora have now won three consecutive doubles matches.

To secure the doubles point for the Bobcats, Mae McCutcheon  and Jadeh Chan recorded their first doubles victory of the year on court one. They defeated Falicia Back and Jemma Cave who were 3-2 on court one this season.

Emma Carr and Emily Niers were featured on court three and won their match 6-3.

Singles
Continuing her winning streak, Lora won in straight sets for the third match in a row. Lora won 6-4, 6-0 on the sixth court to give the Bobcats their first singles point and second-overall point of the match.

Following closely behind her teammate, Callie Creath defeated SFA's Falicia Back in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 on court No. 2. Back was 5-1 in singles for the Lumberjacks this year before facing Creath. This marks Creath third singles victory on the year.

Securing the last singles point needed for the match win was Fortuno on Court No. 4. Fortuno defeated her opponent in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 and recorded her third singles victory of the year.
