Box Score STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Texas State women's basketball secured its third road win of the season to improve to 4-3 on the season after a 71-59 win over Tarleton State on Wednesday night.
Â
Taleiyah Gibbs led the Bobcats with 12 points, which was a career-best outing for her. That, paired with 10 points from
Destiny Terrell and
Jaylin Foster was enough to help the Bobcats to its double-digit win.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
Texas State started well, getting themselves out to an early 10-4 lead off a Gibbs layup. From there, they pushed the lead out to seven after
Nicole Leff drained a three in the dying moments of the first quarter. Foster and Gibbs each tallied four points in the first quarter to get the Bobcats off to a 6-12 shooting start in the first quarter.
Â
The second quarter became a free-throw affair for the Bobcats as they shot 12 free throws, making eight of them, in the second quarter. That helped offset some shooting woes for the Bobcats to maintain a lead going into halftime. The Bobcats defense helped limit the Texans to 3-9 shooting, helping the Bobcats take an eight point lead into the halftime break.
Â
Texas State outshot the Texans in the third quarter by improving to 9-16 shooting. The Bobcats outscored Tarleton State 18-13 in the third, pushing them out to a double-digit lead headed into the fourth quarter.  Terrell came alive in the third for 3-3 shooting with a rebound and a steal.
Â
The final quarter was a foul-filled affair with back and forth play between the two sides. Despite the Texans shooting 17-22 from the line in the fourth, Texas State was still able to hold on to their lead and come away with a 71-59 win.Â
