SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State head baseball coach Steven Trout completed his staff with the hiring of Danny-David Linahan on Thursday. Linahan was previously with the Minnesota Twins for the past two seasons.
 
"I'm excited to join the Texas State University family! We are extremely grateful for Coach Trout and the coaching staff for the opportunity they've provided me and my family here in San Marcos," said Linahan. "I'm looking forward to helping continue the legacy of Texas State baseball. I can't wait to get with our team and work to develop our student-athletes to compete for championships, the professional ranks and life beyond baseball."
 
With the Bobcats, Linahan will serve as the hitting coach and will work with the catchers.
 
"We couldn't be more excited to have Coach Linahan and his wife Kori join our Texas State Baseball Family. Danny-David is one of the premier hitting coaches in the country and we are fired up to have him lead our hitters," said Trout. "We are fortunate to grab a coach who goes from working with big leaguers to developing our hitters at a high level. His knowledge of the swing is off the charts and he does a great job building relationships with his players."
 
In his two years with the Twins, Linahan served as the coordinator of run production and was an assistant hitting coach. His first season he oversaw game planning and helping develop hitters in a variety of ways form breaking down opposing pitchers to hitter biomechanics, functional movement and mental game strategies. The 2023 season saw the Twins win the American League Central Division and won its first postseason game since 2004.
 
Minnesota showcased their depth with 12 players hitting double-digit home runs with seven setting career-highs in homers. Several young players came on the scene including Royce Lewis, who broke the Twins grand slam record with five and did so in only 66 games as a rookie.
 
Prior to working in the Major Leagues, Linahan spent the 2022 season as the full-time minor league hitting coach for the Cleveland Guardians and spent most of the campaign at the Arizona Complex. He worked with the rookie level team along with international players making their state-side debuts and newly selected players in the MLB Draft.
 
He also served with the Guardians' High-A and Double-A teams after the conclusion of the Rookie Level season. Linahan worked with Will Brennan, Bo Naylor, Bryan Rocchio, David Fry, Gabriel Arias, Daniel Schneeman, Jhonkensy Noel, Nolan Jones and Oscar Gonzales who have all made an impact at the MLB level.
 
The first minor league job was with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. In 2020, Linahan worked as the minor league player development coach at the team's Arizona complex. The next year saw him work with the Dodgers' Double-A affiliate Tulsa Drillers as the player development coach. He helped with day-to-day hitting and pitching operations, game planning and practice design. A total of 16 players he worked with that year are contributing at the major league level with the Dodgers and teams across the league.
 
In 2019, he was hired as the director of player development with Abilene Christian and worked with the program through the COVID-shortened 2020 season.
 
Linahan completed his collegiate playing career with his last two seasons at Hardin-Simmons where he graduated in 2019. He played the 2017 season at Southwestern Oklahoma State and his freshman year at Frank Phillips Junior College.
 
The Argyle, Texas native is married to Kori Linahan.
