KAPOLEI, O'ahu – Texas State men's golfer Sakke Siltala earned runner-up honors at that Kapolei Invitational to help lead the Bobcats to a season-best tied for fourth finish at the event.

Siltala (66-74-73—213) fired a season-low 66 in the tournament's first round to put together a three-round 3-under 213 for his best finish of the season and second consecutive in the top three. The 4-under opening 18 stood as the low individual round for the tournament. In total, the junior carded 9 birdies and an eagle, while only registering eight bogeys.

As a team, Texas State tied with Utah Valley at 13-over, while Miami (Ohio) won the event at 7-under and San Diego (+6) and Hawai'i (+9) finished second and third, respectively.

"It was a good week for us in Hawaii," head coach Shane Howell said. "We got to the lead early in the tournament but didn't quite handle the nerves that came with it. It will help us later in the year when we get back in the lead next time.

"Sakke had a fantastic week and capped off a great semester of golf," Howell continued. "Our fall semester is over and now we look forward to the offseason to get better for the spring championship segment."

Jack Burke (71-75-74—220) went 2-over in the final round to finish tied for 21st, and Ben Loveard (71-75-76—222) completed his day 4-over to tie for 35th at +6.  

Jaxon Donaldson (75-78-72—225) climbed 17 spots on the individual leaderboard on the final 18, shooting even par for his best round of the event to finish tied for 48th, and Joel Talusen rounded out the Bobcat lineup 10-over and tied for 52nd.

The event was the final tournament on the 2024 portion of the schedule, with action resuming Feb. 10-11 at the Hal Williams Collegiate in Mobile, Alabama.
