SAN MARCOS, Texas – The only match this week for Texas State (6-3-3, 2-0-1 Sun Belt) sees the team face Arkansas State (3-3-2, 0-2-0 Sun Belt) at the Bobcat Soccer Complex on Friday with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
Fans can listen to the contest on KTSW 89.9 FM and live stats will also be available. There will not be a stream on ESPN+ due to volleyball's home opener taking place at the same time.
About Texas State
The Bobcats head into Friday on a seven-match unbeaten streak after picking up two wins last weekend over Marshall and Southern Miss. Six of the contests during the run have come on the run that includes draws versus Baylor and then 13th-ranked Oklahoma State.
Mady Soumare's six goals and three match-winning goals are tied for first in the Sun Belt Conference. The trio of
Helen Alormenu,
Sydney Bassa and
Victoria Meza have scored two goals apiece while
Zoe Junior and
Mya Ulloa have netted two goals each.
A team leading four assists have been credited to
Kaylie Smith and Junior has three assists to her name. Also with two assists on the year are
Anna Dunch,
Chloe Jones,
Marie Philipzen, Soumare and Ulloa.
Between the posts,
Caitlyn Draper heads into Friday's match with a 0.81 GAA. She leads the Sun Belt with 44 saves and is second with a .863 save percentage. Also seeing action in goal is
Katelyn Chrisman, who has made nine saves in four contests and nearly 307 minutes of action.
About Arkansas State
The Red Wolves have dropped their first two Sun Belt matches with losses at home to Georgia Southern and South Alabama. ASU's scheduled match this past Sunday at App State was postponed until Oct. 20 due to the damage caused by Hurricane Helene. On the road, the Red Wolves are 1-1-0 with a win over Western Kentucky and a loss at Louisiana Tech.
Pacing the team with two goals apiece is Keelyn Peacock and Emma Riales. They also have taken a team-high 22 and 13 shots, respectively. Finding the back of the net once has been Omamuzo Edafe, Kennedy Horn and Maya Jones. Leading the way with two assists is Nicoline Hansen.
Damaris Deschaine has started all eight matches in goal. She comes in with 36 saves and a conference best .878 save percentage and 0.63 GAA.
Series History
The all-time series between the teams is tied 6-6-2. However, ASU had three of its wins in the series over the 2020 and 2021 seasons be vacated due to NCAA rule violations. Last season, the teams played to a scoreless draw in Jonesboro that saw the Bobcats outshoot the Red Wolves 21-13 and 6-4 in shots on goal.
When playing in San Marcos, Texas State has gone 4-3-0 in the series. Last time the teams met at the Bobcat Soccer Complex was on Sept. 17, 2022. The Bobcats won 2-1 behind first half goals from
Olivia Wright and Junior with the victory snapping a five-match winless streak in the series.
