Women's Tennis Dominates at Final Fall Competition

Texas State went 22-4 at the Bobcat Invitational

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's tennis ended its fall season in dominant fashion at the Bobcat Invitational this weekend. The Bobcats recorded 22 wins throughout the doubles and singles portions of the invite and only dropped four matches during the two days of action.
 
"I was really happy with our performance this weekend. The girls came out each match, competed hard, and got the job done," said Texas State women's tennis head coach Kendall Brooks. "Only losing four matches all weekend is huge and a great way for us to end the fall season."
 
Singles
The Bobcats recorded 14 wins during the singles portion of the invite and took only three losses during the three rounds of singles play.
 
Kiana Graham
Graham won all three of her matches in singles play at the Bobcat Invitational and recorded a straight-set victory in each. Her most dominant win came over ULM's Vanja Cado, when she won 6-0, 6-0 in the first round of singles play.
 
Tadiwa Mauchi
Mauchi went 2-0 in singles play at the Bobcat Invitational and secured her wins in the first and second rounds but was scratched from playing in the third round. She won her first match in a hard-fought battle against St. Mary's Karen Kondo, 7-5, 3-6, 16-14, and went on to win her second match 6-3, 6-4.
 
Callie Creath
Creath was the final Bobcat to win all three of her matches during the Bobcat Invitational. She secured two of her wins against conference foe ULM, winning 6-1, 6-1 against Mariia Iordanova and 6-2, 6-4 versus Camilia Molina.
 
Sofia Fortuno
Fortuno fell in her first matchup at the invitational against Troy's Valeriia Avdeeva, 5-7, 2-6 but went on to find victories in her next two matches. She defeated ULM's Lucia Fernandez, 5-7, 6-3, 10-5, and Troy's Hagar Amin Ramadan, 6-1, 2-1, ret.
 
Emily Niers
Niers dropped her first singles match of the weekend, 0-6, 0-6, against UIW's Smilia Matovic but battled back to win her final two singles matches. She won her second-round matchup, 7-5, 6-3, and her third match, 6-1, 3-6, 10-4.
 
Ireland Simme
Simme got off to a hot start at the Bobcat Invitational, winning her first two singles matches in straight sets. In her first match, she won 6-3, 6-1, and went on to win her second match, 6-4, 6-2 but dropped her third match against Troy's Emilia Namyslo in three sets, 7-6, 4-6, 10-4.
 
Doubles
Throughout the three rounds of doubles play, the Bobcats secured eight wins and only lost one of their nine doubles matchups.
 
Sofia Fortuno/Ireland Simme
Fortuno and Simme went 3-0 in doubles play during the Bobcat Invitational and outscored their opponents 18-8. Their biggest win came against ULM's Camilia Molina and Lucia Fernandez, when they won 6-1 in the second round of play.
 
Kiana Graham/Tadiwa Mauchi
Graham and Mauchi secured two doubles wins this past weekend. The pair won their first match of the weekend, 6-0 and found their second win in the final round of play when they defeated St. Mary's team of Alessia Terlizzi and Paula Garrote, 6-4.
 
Callie Creath/Emily Niers
Creath and Niers were the second Texas State pair to go undefeated in doubles play this past weekend. The duo won their three matches, 6-4, 6-4, and 6-2.
 
The Bobcats are on a break until their spring season begins with a matchup against Southeast Missouri State on January 18 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
