Newcomer Callie Creath picked up the Bobcats' point with singles win

Box Score

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's tennis dropped its season opener on Saturday 6-1 versus North Florida at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. Newcomer Callie Creath picked up the Bobcats' point with a win in singles.

"Despite the loss, I'm extremely proud of the way our team competed," said Texas State head coach Kendall Brooks. "I think no one went away and everyone stayed out there as long as possible, which as a coach, that's really all you can ask is for your team to battle and never give up. North Florida was a really strong team and I thought we played well against them, especially for the first match of the season. So, I'm optimistic about what we are capable of and excited about getting after it again next week."

Doubles
The doubles team of Kiana Graham and Emily Niers came away with the lone doubles win of the afternoon with a 6-2 win on the third court.

After Mae McCutchen and Jadeh Chan lost 6-1 on court No. 1, the deciding matchup for the doubles point came down to the second court where Callie Creath and Sofia Fortuno fought hard but fell 6-3.

Singles
Creath rebounded from the defeat in doubles and was the lone Bobcat to secure a singles victory. On the third court, she lost her first set 6-0 and found herself down 4-0 in her second set. However, she did not go away easy and won the second set 7-6 (7-5). In the third set, she won the lone game, 11-9, to win the match.

On the fourth court, Fortuno forced a third set where she lost 1-0 (10-7), after winning her second set 7-6 (7-5) and narrowly losing her first set 7-5.

No. 1 Graham and No. 2 Niers, playing on the first and second courts, both lost 6-3, 6-3, while No. 5 Pineda (6-1, 6-4) and No. 6 McCutcheon (6-2, 6-4) also lost in straight sets.
