Bobcats Hit the Road to take on Red Wolves

SAN MARCOS, Texas – After opening Sun Belt Conference play with a victory, the Texas State soccer team (6-3-0, 1-0-0 SBC) hits the road to face Arkansas State (2-4-1, 0-1-0 SBC) on Thursday afternoon. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. kickoff from the A-State Soccer Park.

About Texas State
The Bobcats won their conference opener for the 18th time in the team's 25-year history with a 3-0 win over Louisiana. Netting a goal in the contest was Halle Garcia, Zoe Junior and Mady Soumare while Caitlyn Draper recorded her second straight shutout. Thursday is TXST's fourth road match of the year and it has gone 2-1-0 in the previous three.
 
A team-high three goals have been recorded by Garcia, Junior and Soumare. Finding the back of the net twice has been Victoria Meza, who leads the team with three assists, and Olivia Wright. Six Bobcats have been credited with two assists.
 
Draper has started the last two contests in goal. The freshman has not allowed a goal in her last 254:54 minutes on the pitch and has a 0.27 GAA on the season. She has made 15 saves for a .938 save percentage. Katelyn Chrisman has started five matches between the posts and comes in with a 1.82 GAA, 24 saves and a .750 save percentage.
 
About Arkansas State
The Red Wolves are on a two-match losing streak and have dropped three of their last four contests. Last Friday saw them fall at home 2-0 to James Madison. Thursday is the fourth and final contest of a four-match homestand. ASU is 2-2-0 at home with victories over Southern and Southeastern Louisiana and losses to Oklahoma State and the Dukes.
 
Aliyah Williamson is ASU's only multi-goal scorer with two. Emma Riley has recorded a goal and two assists while Darby Stotts has added a goal and an assist. Stotts paces the team with 13 shots and five shots on goal. Also with double-digit shot attempts are Phoebe Harpole and Keelyn Peacock with 12 and 10, respectively.
 
In goal, Olivia Luther has started four matches including the last three. The senior enters with a 1.43 GAA, 20 saves and a.800 save percentage. Damaris Deschaine has appeared in four contests and made three starts. She has a 3.04 GAA and .688 save percentage with 22 stops.
 
All-Time vs. Red Wolves
Thursday is the 14th all-time meeting between the two programs with the series tied 6-6-1. Texas State won last year's meeting 2-1 in San Marcos behind first half goals from Junior and Wright. That victory snapped a five-match winless streak in the series.
 
When facing the Red Wolves on the road, the Bobcats are 2-3-0 as the last win came on Sept. 24, 2017. Kassi Hormuth scored the match-winner in the 1-0 contest late in the 77th minute. Thursday is the first time that TXST has played in Jonesboro since the 2020 season.
