HOUSTON – Texas State will, for the third time, be participating in the Astros Foundation College Classic. The event is scheduled to take place Mar. 1-3, 2024 at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros.
Â
The Bobcats previously played in the tournament in 2019 and 2021. In those two appearances, they have posted a 3-3 record and placed six players on the all-tournament team that included Nicholas Fraze claiming the 2019 Most Outstanding Player award.
Â
Opening up the tournament, Texas State will take on Houston at 11 a.m. It will be the first time the teams have met since the 2021 season and saw the Cougars extend their all-time advantage in the series to 33-20. The Bobcats won the lone previous meeting at Minute Maid Park by a score of 9-4 in 2019.
Â
Texas State will then take on Texas at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Bobcats have won two of the last three meetings with both victories coming over a ranked Longhorn team in Austin. Once before the teams have met at a neutral site with it being at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas in 2008.
Â
Sunday's finale will be a 3 p.m. first pitch against the recently crowned national champions LSU. The contest will be the first against a defending national champion since 2017 when Texas State took on Coastal Carolina. Only other time that the Bobcats and Tigers faced off was in 2004 that saw LSU sweep the series in Baton Rouge.
Â
More information regarding tickets going on sale and broadcast schedule will be announced at a later date.
