Wynn Qualifies for National Championships in 100 Hurdles

Redshirt senior will be making her first career appearance at the national meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sedrickia Wynn qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the first time in her career and set two school records on Saturday to highlight the final day of the 2023 NCAA West Prelims for Texas State at Hornet Stadium.

Wynn ran 13.16 in the women's 100 meter hurdles and finished 12th to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin in two weeks. The redshirt senior's time was fourth-fastest in school history and made her the first Bobcat to qualify for the event since Olympian Brigitte Foster-Hylton in 1998.

Texas State will send three to the national championships as Wynn will be joined by freshmen Chris Preddie (men's long jump) and Elisabet Runarsdottir (women's hammer throw). It is the most individual Texas State athletes in the national meet since 2017.

Wynn was in four different events on Saturday, including the anchor leg of the women's 4x100 relay. The quartet of Anayah Washington, Sadi Giles, Cara Johnson and Wynn ran a school-record 44.09, but fell outside of the qualifying top-12 as they finished 16th.

Wynn narrowly missed qualifying in the women's 100 meters as she finished five-hundredths of a second short of the top-12. She ran 11.24, which broke a school record that has stood for the last 21 years.

In the 200 meters, her final race, Wynn placed 17th with a time of 23.12. It was the 10th-best time in school history.

Katherine Stuckly wrapped up her Texas State career by matching her season-best in the high jump with a height of 1.77 meters/5-9.75. The senior, who was making her third straight appearance in the NCAA West Prelims, placed 18th in the event.

Freshman Utitofon Sam was making her first career appearance in the prelims. She had a throw of 47.64 meters/156-3 in the women's discus to finish 42nd.

The 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships will take place from June 7-10.
