Baseball Takes on Troy on the Road

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The road swing for Texas State (25-13, 9-6 Sun Belt) continues with a weekend series at Troy (26-12, 8-7 Sun Belt) from Riddle-Pace Field. Friday's game is slated for a 6 p.m. start followed by a 3 p.m. first pitch on Saturday. The series finale on Sunday will start early at 11 a.m.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats enter the weekend on a season long five-game winning streak after defeating I-35 rival and 25th-ranked UTSA. Tuesday's game in San Antonio kicked off a stretch of playing seven of eight games on the road. TXST 7-7 on the road this season with a 2-4 mark against Sun Belt opponents.
 
Davis Powell enters on a 10-game hitting streak and has recorded two base knocks in each of the last five contests. Recently named to the Brooks Wallace Award watch list, the junior shortstop leads Texas State with a .381 average, 43 hits, 32 runs, 14 doubles and a .467 OBP while driving in 26 runs. Chase Mora is the only other player hitting over .300 at .303 and continues to lead the squad with 12 home runs. Entering with 10 homers and a team best 41 RBI is Jose Gonzalez. Both Cade Manning and August Ramirez have smashed eight round trippers apiece.
 
Friday night will see Levi Wells take the mound. The reigning Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week is 6-1 with a 4.09 ERA and 58 strikeouts this season in eight starts. Tony Robie will start on Saturday and comes in at 5-0 with a 3.09 ERA and 33 strikeouts spanning 35.0 innings. Getting the ball in the series finale on Sunday will be Zeke Wood, who has posted a 1-2 record, 4.99 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 30.2 innings.
 
Triston Dixon (2-1, 3.86 ERA, 5 SV) has made a team-high 19 appearances in relief and worked a total of 37.1 innings. Jack Stroud paces all relievers with 44 strikeouts. The lefty is also 2-2 with a 3.77 ERA and two saves in 31.0 innings. Since moving to the bullpen, Nathan Medrano has posted a 1.93 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 14.0 innings spanning seven games.
 
ABOUT TROY
The Trojans are coming off an 11-1 win in seven innings on Tuesday at Jacksonville State. The victory was their sixth in the last eight games with both losses coming in the series finales at Arkansas State and Louisiana. At home, Troy is 17-5 with a 4-2 mark in Sun Belt action that includes a sweep of ULM and dropping the series against Southern Miss.
 
William Sullivan leads the Trojans in batting average (.338), hits (45), runs (39) and hit by pitches (13). He has also hit 15 home runs and has 36 RBI. A team leading 16 homers and 54 RBI have been recorded by Shane Lewis. The sophomore outfielder is also batting .315 with 37 runs scored while striking out 40 times. Also hitting over .300 is Caleb Bartolero at .301. The senior catcher has a team-high 12 doubles and has hit nine round trippers with 38 RBI and 32 runs.
 
Brady Fuller gets the ball on Friday and the right-hander is 3-3 with a 5.80 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 49.2 innings over nine starts. Saturday will see Grayson Stewart start on the mound. He comes in with a 4-2 record, 3.66 ERA and 48 strikeouts spanning 46.2 innings. The starter on Sunday is to be announced.
 
A team-high six saves have been earned by Noah Manning, who has also posted a 1-2 record, 4.81 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 24.1 innings over a team-high 19 relief appearances. Earning a save apiece has been Zach Fruit (5-1, 6.51 ERA, 57 K), Grady Gorgen (1-0, 2.77 ERA), Brandon Schrepft (4.73 ERA, 20 K) and Ben Thompson (4-0, 5.01 ERA), who has a staff-high 62 strikeouts and 40 walks.
 
SERIES VS. TROJANS
Troy leads the all-time series 13-8. Last season saw Texas State win the first two games on the road before dropping the series finale. It was the first time that Bobcats had not only won games on the road against the Trojans but also a road series. TXST enters the weekend with a 2-7 record when playing in Troy, Alabama.
