GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sedrickia Wynn ran the fastest time ever by a Bobcat in the women's 100 meter hurdles and two relay teams – women's 4x100 and men's 4x400 – set new school records as the Bobcats finished up competition at the Tom Jones Memorial on Saturday.
Wynn, who also ran on the women's 4x1 on Saturday, ran a wind-aided 13.10 (+2.4) in the women's 100 meter hurdle prelims to break a 23-year-old record held by Olympian Brigitte Foster-Hylton. Foster-Hylton ran a wind-aided 13.13 in 1998.
Wynn went on to finish seventh in the finals of the hurdles with a time 13.21 (+2.3), which was also a top-five time in school history.
In the women's 4x100, Wynn ran the anchor leg for the relay team that posted a 44.72 and finished 10th overall. The group of
Anayah Washington,
Sadi Giles,
Victoria Wright and Wynn broke the previous school-best that was set last year by three of the four same runners (Washington, Wright, Wynn and
Christine Irving).
The men's 4x400 relay, meanwhile, did something no Texas State 4x4 group had ever done as it ran a sub-3:04 with a time of 3:03.93 to finish sixth in the meet. The relay team of
Taahir Kelly,
Brian West,
Ashton Callahan and
Dominick Yancy surpassed the previous school record of 3:04.71 set in 1989.
The 4x4's time is seventh-best in the NCAA West Prelim region so far this year.
Overall, the Bobcats had nine times or marks that ranked in the school's top-10 in the respective events on Saturday. Yancy ran 45.72 in the 400 for the fourth-fastest time in school history while
Ashton Callahan ran 10.32 in the 100 meter dash for the seventh-fastest. In the women's 100 meter, Wynn ran 11.45 for the ninth-fastest.
The men's 4x100 relay of
Bervensky Pierre, Callahan,
Daniel Harrold and Yancy ran 39.53, which was third-fastest in school history and second-fastest by them this year.
Grady Leonard had a hammer throw of 64.50 meters/211-7 for the fifth-best mark in school history.
In the women's discus, freshman
Utitofon Sam had a top-five finish in the meet with a throw of 50.99 meters/167-3.
The Bobcats will return to the state of Texas for their next meet as they will compete at the Michael Johnson Invite in Waco on April 21-22.
