AUSTIN, Texas – Grady Leonard, in his first meet as a Bobcat, set a school record in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 65.22 meters/214-0 at the Longhorn Invitational on Saturday.

In the Bobcats' first outdoor meet of the season, Leonard had throws of 63.51 meters, 62.84 meters, and 63.14 meters in his first three attempts before registering the school record in his sixth and final attempt. Leonard, who transferred to Texas State from Idaho, broke a three-year-old record last held by Brandon Busby.

Leonard was one of 17 Bobcats who competed in the one-day meet. Freshman
Melanie Duron finished second in the women's shot put with a throw of 15.84 meters/51-11.75 while
Lauryn Small finished third in the same event with a throw of 15.33 meters/50-3.5.

Carly Watts and
Utitofon Sam also had top-three finishes in the women's discus and hammer throw, respectively. Watts threw 49.85 meters/163-6 in the discus while Sam had a toss of 44.26 meters/145-2 in the hammer.

The Bobcats were highlighted in the running events by
Cameron Conyers finishing sixth in the men's 400 with a time of 49.14.

Texas State will return to its outdoor slate with the UTSA Invitational on March 17-18.
