Tennis Hosts Brown for Final Non-Conference Match

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State tennis will begin their three-match homestand with the final non-conference match of the season against No. 65 Brown at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

Texas State (4-10, 0-5 Sun Belt) enters the midweek matchup after dropping both of their conference road matches to Georgia Southern and Coastal Carolina. Emily Niers helped the Bobcats avoid a second sweep of the weekend when she earned the lone point of the match with her singles victory on line three against the Chanticleers. Niers made her first pair of appearances on line three last weekend and pushed two sets to a tiebreaker.

The Bobcats have lost two doubles points in a row. Sofia Fortuno and Maria Lora are the only duo to hold an active win streak, with three matches.

Texas State will be the last stop for Brown (11-5) on their three-match road swing through Texas. The Bears fist stop resulted in a 4-1 loss to No. 53 Rice and plays No. 9 Texas in Austin today. Brown was riding a five-match win streak before falling to Boston at home. Last season the Bears finished 8-14 and 2-5 in the Ivy League.

Ali Benedetto is Brown's top court player in singles with a 4-1 record, and on court six Lindsey Hofflander has a perfect 7-0 record and was responsible for the lone point against Rice. For doubles, Britany Lau and Addison Ahlstrom are 8-1 on the top court. Vivian Miller and Nora Lee follow on line two and are 6-0. Court three duo Hofflander and Phoebe Peus have seen just two losses this season.
