SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State tennis hosts St. John's on Thursday, March 2 for the first meeting between the two teams at 2 p.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
The Bobcats (3-5) are on a two-match win streak following their 4-3 win over Northwestern State last Sunday, Feb. 26.
Kiana Graham clinched the match for the Bobcats after going to a third set tiebreaker where she saved four points.
Texas State dropped their seventh doubles point of the season, but
Kate Malazonia and
Mae McCutcheon won the top court.
Sofia Fortuno is 4-1 in singles on line six to increase her win streak to four and Malazonia improved to 5-3 on line three.
St. John's (6-4, 1-0 Big East) will travel to the lone star state after opening conference play with a 7-0 win over Villanova. Five of the Red Storm's wins were sweeps, four of them at home. St. John's is 1-3 on the road with their only road win being against Monmouth.
Following the win over Villanova, St. John's Mouna Bouzgarrou and Lalita Devarakonda were tabbed Big East Doubles Team of the Week for the second time this season, and the duo improved to 3-1 on line one. On the singles side, Lalita Devarakonda is 5-2 on the top court and the Red Storm lineup has three players with five wins on courts two, three, and five.
After the match with St. John's, the Bobcats begin conference play with James Madison at home next week.
