Tennis Faces UIW in Road Matchup

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State (1-1) tennis will have their third consecutive road match of the season against UIW (0-2) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4. 
 
The Bobcats won its first match of the season against Sam Houston 4-3 where Sofia Fortuno clinched the winning point. With a match against Houston the following day, Texas State fell 4-1 to the Cougars after dropping the doubles point. Kiana Graham earned the lone point of the match in singles, winning 6-4, 6-1 on the top court. 
 
UIW has been shut out twice this season against SMU and Texas Tech, the Cardinals were scheduled to play a double header against Texas Permian Basin but the matches were canceled. UIW returns the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year Gargi Pawar and Newcomer of the Year Sofia Franco Salcedo. During the fall Brandelyn and Lauren Fulgenzi won the ITA Texas Regionals Doubles title and advanced to the ITA Fall National Championships. 
 
Last season the Cardinals were 10-12 overall and 1-5 in the Southland Conference. Texas State leads the all-time series 6-0, with the latest matchup taking place in San Marcos where the Bobcats won 6-1 in 2020.
