ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Sedrickia Wynn set her third school record this indoor season and
Dominick Yancy smashed the men's indoor 200 mark by nearly four-tenths of a second as Texas State competed in the first day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque on Friday.
Â
Competing at the same site as the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships and at 5,000+ foot elevation, Wynn and Yancy continued to etch their names among the Texas State greats in their third indoor meet of the year. Wynn ran 23.50 in the women's 200 meter, which was third-fastest in the field, to break the school record by one-hundredth of a second. Yancy, meanwhile, ran 20.58 in the men's 200 to surpass the previous school-best by 0.39 of a second. The previous record was held by Yancy and current teammate
Bervensky Pierre (20.97).
Â
Yancy headlined a group of Texas State men in the 200 who all had top-10 school marks on Friday.
Ashton Callahan ran 20.90 to record the second-fastest time in school history while Pierre's 21.01 was fifth-fastest.
Â
So far this season, Wynn has set the school records in the women's 60 meters, 60 meter hurdles and now the women's 200. Yancy, meanwhile, is the owner of the men's 200 and 400 school records after Friday's performance in the 200.
Â
In the field events,
Mathilde Canet finished third in the pentathlon with 3,832 points – which were the second-most in school history. She had a PR in the shot put (10.50 meters) and finished third in the long jump with a leap of 5.88 meters to help tabulate the total.
Â
In the women's weight throw, the top three freshmen in the event were all Bobcats as
Elisabet Runarsdottir (8th),
Utitofon Sam (19th) and
Melanie Duron (20th) placed in the top half of the field. Runarsdottir was the only freshman to make it into the final round of the event, and she finished eighth overall with a throw of 18.00 meters/59-1.
Â
Lauryn Small had a personal-best in the women's weight throw with a toss of 17.46 meters/57-3. The junior finished 10th in the event to give the Bobcats two top-10 finishers.
