SAN MARCOS, Texas – A historic start to his collegiate career has seen Texas State's
Chase Mora be named Collegiate Baseball's National Player of the Week.
Â
Coming off the bench in the final two games against Northwestern, Mora hit a home run in all three of his plate appearances while seeing just seven pitches. The freshman smacked the second pitch he saw on Saturday in the seventh inning for a three-run homer as a pinch hitter.
Â
The Tomball, Texas native came on as a pinch hitter again in the series finale in the seventh. He sent a 2-2 offering over the left field wall and into the outfield of the Bobcat Softball Stadium. Mora would blast the first pitch he saw to left center for a grand slam to cap off the Bobcats' scoring and inning later.
Â
While no record exists, Mora is most likely is the first player in NCAA history to hit a home run in each of his first three career plate appearances. It is a feat that has never been accomplished in MLB with only two players, Keith McDonald (2000; St. Louis Cardinals) and Bob Nieman (1951; St. Louis Browns), hitting a homer in their first two career at bats.
Â
Next up for TXST is a three-game series with Oral Roberts at Bobcat Ballpark. First pitch on Friday is slated for 6 p.m.
