SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State tennis will have their home opener on Saturday, Feb. 1 against Tarleton State at 1 p.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex, followed by a 1 p.m. road match with UTSA on Sunday, Feb. 2 in San Antonio.

Last weekend the Bobcats (1-2) dropped their lone match of the weekend 4-3 at UIW.

Mae McCutcheon picked up their first singles match win of the season, and McCutcheon teamed up with doubles partner
Kate Malazonia to get their first doubles win on the top court.Â

Tarleton State (2-2) earned their first wins of the season by shutting out Cowley College 7-0 in their home opener, and a 4-3 victory over Oral Roberts. Tarleton State's Martha Makantasi was named the Western Athletics Conference Singles Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks. Doubles duo Ximena Morales and Laure Razet were named the Doubles Team of the Week and are 2-0 this season on court three.Â

The Texans will be stopping at UTSA for an afternoon match on Friday before coming to San Marcos. Last season Tarleton State finished 18-4 and 5-0 in the WAC. Texas State leads the all-time series against Tarleton State 2-0, with a 4-1 win over the Texans in Stephenville, Texas in 2021. The Bobcats host the Texans Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex at 1 p.m.

UTSA (4-2, 1-0 Conference USA) will be hosting the Bobcats for their first weekend of home matches after recording four back-to-back wins against UTEP, New Mexico State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Lamar. Aleksandra Zlatarova earned the C-USA Athlete of the Week honor after getting the No. 1 doubles point twice and a singles match point on line one in a pair of weekend matches. Zlatarova and doubles partner Fatima Gutierrez are 3-0 on court one and Adeliya Mukhutdinova and Alexandra Weir are 2-0 on court three.Â

On Sunday, Feb. 12 Texas State will compete against the Roadrunners at the UTSA Tennis Center at 1 p.m. in San Antonio.Â
