Men’s Golf Breaks 54-Hole Record at Kapolei Invitational and Finishes Fourth

KAPOLEI, Hawaii – Texas State men's golf ends the fall season with a fourth place finish and set a program-record for lowest 54-hole score at the Kapolei Invitational on Thursday. Sakke Siltala tied for fifth at the Kapolei Golf Course. 
 
"Fantastic week for the guys," said Texas State men's golf head coach Shane Howell. "We played the way we are capable of playing as a team. It was fun to watch these guys compete and play great golf against a highly ranked field of teams this week. This will provide momentum going into the spring season." 
 
Team
Texas State tied for fourth among 19 teams and set a program-record for lowest 54-hole score going 44-under 820. The Bobcats went 13-under 275 in the final round of the Kapolei Invitational today. 
 
Falling two spots in the final round, Texas State finished behind No. 23 Baylor, No. 53 Florida Gulf Coast, and team champions No. 46 Loyola Marymount. The Bobcats finished ahead of No. 41 BYU and No. 86 Augusta. 
 
Texas State led the field in pars (178) and eagles (7). 
 
Individual
In the third round of the Kapolei Invitational three Bobcats recorded an eagle on hole No. 17. 
 
After recording his third eagle of the tournament, two coming in the final round, Sakke Siltala tied for fifth in his first tournament appearance this season. The sophomore recorded his second round of 67 in the tournament and finished 14-under 202. 
 
Tom Roed Karlsen climbed the leaderboard 22 spots and tied for 25th  at eight-under for his best finish of the season. With six birdies Karlsen saw his best round of the tournament shooting five-under 67, an 18-hole total season low. 
 
Marcelo Garza went one-under 71 and tied for 37th seven-under. Kasper Nyland fell out of the top-10 after shooting four-over 76 in the final round. Jack Burke recorded his second lowest round of the tournament shooting two-under 70.
