SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final match of the regular season and senior night for the Texas State soccer team (8-6-3, 3-3-3 Sun Belt) takes place on Thursday against Southern Miss (6-8-2, 3-4-2 Sun Belt). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
Prior to the match, the team will recognize its six seniors:
Beth Agee,
Bailey Peschel,
Haley Shaw,
Mya Ulloa,
Olivia Wright and
Wimberley Wright. Texas State SAAC will also be hosting a Trunk or Treat for all youth in attendance.
Admission to the match is free. Fans can catch the action on ESPN+ and KTSW 89.9 FM while also being able to follow along via live stats.
About Texas State
The Bobcats are coming off a split weekend that saw them beat East Division leader Old Dominion before falling to South Alabama on Sunday. TXST heads into Thursday eighth in the Sun Belt Conference standings, one point ahead of the Golden Eagles. Having already clinched a spot in the Sun Belt Tournament, the Bobcats can finish as high as seventh and as low as 10th.
A team-high five goals and 12 points have been recorded by O. Wright. The trio of
Zoe Junior,
Victoria Meza and
Mady Soumare have scored three goals. A team best four assists belong to
Kennley Bradley, Junior and Meza while
Mya Ulloa and
Lily Erb are right behind them with three assists each.
Caitlyn Draper has started the last 10 matches in goal where she has recorded a 1.11 GAA with 51 saves and a .797 save percentage. The Hutto, Texas native's five shutouts are the second most by a TXST freshman goalkeeper.
About Southern Miss
USM comes into Thursday on a four-match winless streak (0-3-1) and are coming off a 2-2 draw at home against ULM. Previously, the Golden Eagles fell to App State (1-0), Georgia Southern (2-1) and Louisiana (2-1) while the last win was a 2-1 contest over Georgia State on Oct. 5. They are 1-6-0 this season on the road with the lone victory being over Troy on Sept. 21. USM heads into Thursday ninth in the Sun Belt and can finish as high as eighth or low as 11th and miss out on the conference tournament.
Adaira Nakano leads the squad with seven goals, four assists, 18 points, 11 shots on goal and three match-winning goals. Two of her tallies have come from the penalty spot. Chloe Taylor has found the back of the net three times while the trio of Abby Badurak, Rebeka Vega and Parker Martin have scored two goals apiece. Other players with multiple assists are Emilie Torres and Hinano Hakagawa with two each.
In goal, Alex Helbling has started all 16 matches. She has a 1.59 GAA with 57 saves and a .722 save percentage in nearly 1,248 minutes. Maddie Ellis has come off the bench five times and totaled 110:34 minutes between the posts while sporting a 2.44 GAA with four saves. Two appearances, both in non-conference play, were made by Kesaia Bruni where she surrendered two goals for a 2.21 GAA and made four stops.
All-Time vs. Golden Eagles
Texas State leads the all-time series 1-0-1. Last season, the Bobcats won 1-0 as Southern Miss scored an own goal in the first meeting as Sun Belt members. The first meeting between the programs was on Aug. 31, 2003 in New Orleans on the campus of Tulane that ended in a 1-1 draw.
